In April the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) announced that they are planning to set up a new National Donation Strategy Group which is to be tasked with ‘raising awareness of donation and improving how donors are treated, whilst also protecting the interests of patients and donor conceived people’.
We think that this is a great step forward and could be a real opportunity to make things better for egg donors and for those who need donated eggs. Our whole ethos has always been to make egg donation as easy, pleasurable and as smooth as possible for donors, since we believe that it is such a wonderful thing that they are doing that they deserve the very best – see our ‘About Us’ page.
It is really encouraging that the Government regulators (HFEA) are taking egg donation so seriously and looking at ways that they can raise the level of care for donors to the highest standards. They plan to have the group up and running in June, so we will be watching carefully to see who is part of the group and how it develops over time and what ideas and strategies it comes up with, and, most importantly, whether those plans translate into definite actions.
We will naturally keep you informed here as soon as we have the latest news for you. If at any time you have some thoughts and ideas about this we would love to hear them, so please leave a comment below.
