As an under 21 and a student, I would say you can of course be a donor - as long as you’re able to do so, are doing it for the right reasons, and appreciate the bigger picture. I’ve never been told anyone would be uncomfortable with putting me through the procedure, but I feel I’ve been maybe kept a closer eye on by the hospital and counsellor because of my age. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing; mature or not, you may not realise the gravity of what you’re doing as yet, though I have been told this is less to do with age, and more to do with the fact I’m not yet a mum myself.

Short answer: you should absolutely be able to donate under 21, its possible that this was just your doctor’s own view. Its a massive commitment and requires a lot of serious thought, but so worth it to help someone else like this!
