Emilia’s story

After having children of her own, Emilia was touched by some of her family and friends who struggled to conceive. She thoroughly enjoyed the process, in which she was able to donate 19 eggs!

How did you learn about egg donation?

I knew this was something I wanted to do and I googled “egg donation”. Altrui came up and I decided to give them a call.

Why did you decide to donate via Altrui? 

I loved the personal feel I got from Altrui. It felt like a family and everyone knew who you were. I also liked the fact that I knew something about the couple I was donating to and it made it more personal. The constant support from Altrui and the clinic made this experience as amazing as it was.

What inspired you to donate?

I know quite a few family and friends who have struggled to conceive. When my husband and I had completed our family, it felt like a natural thing to do. I wasn’t using my eggs and I could help someone who needed them. I have never felt that genetics make a family, it’s love.

What did you enjoy the most about the donation process?

The whole process was amazing but finding out they had retrieved 19 eggs was amazing. Finding out they were pregnant with a little girl and then twin girls felt amazing. We all do this with the hope our recipients will get pregnant so to know it worked feels incredible.

How do you feel when you think about your recipient?

I am so honoured to have helped them become a family and they will always hold a special place in my heart.

What would you say to someone considering donating their eggs?

Do lots of research and make sure you donate with an organisation or clinic who will have you as their priority. It is one of the best things I have ever done!

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I wish I had started this when I was younger so I could donate again!
