Inspired by a will to give others what she has, Aimee embarked on a journey to donate her eggs. As she rightly mentions, blood, marrow and organ donation is quite well-known, but there is not much awareness around egg donation. Luckily for us, amazing egg donors like Aimee are helping us to change that.
How did you learn about egg donation?
I l had always known about egg donation but I saw Altrui specifically on Facebook!
Why did you decide to donate via Altrui?
They seemed like such a lovely friendly place to donate with and with lovely staff, and I was right they’re the best!
What inspired you to donate?
I see constantly everywhere people have donated their blood, or their bone marrow, or their organs, I have never seen anyone who has donated their eggs, I try very much to live my life by giving to other people what I have and they need, and helping someone complete their family has got to be the best gift ever.
What did you enjoy the most about the donation process?
I think it is the part after, I’ve spoken to a lot of other ladies about my experience and helped to dispel any myths surrounding the egg donation process, I’ve also been invited to spread More awareness by speaking on an Instagram live with Altrui and it’s the most rewarding feeling.
How do you feel when you think about your recipient?
My recipients sent me a card and a gift to the hospital after the procedure, and when I read the words they had written I felt an instant connection and knew any baby born would be raised in an amazing loving family. So really the only thoughts I have of them are complete love and hope that they’ve got everything they wanted now.
What would you say to someone considering donating their eggs?
Honestly just do it. It’s one of the best things you can ever give to someone. I have absolutely no regrets and every person I have told has been incredibly supportive, it’s just amazing.
